Strong ties between Alwaleed Philanthropies, Mandela Legacy Foundation, and the International Humanitarian Summit 2022

The strong relationship enjoyed by the charitable organization, the Alwaleed Philanthropies;  the Mandela Legacy Foundation, an organization that is aimed at empowering and enhancing the lives of citizens in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa; and the International Humanitarian Summit 2022 (IHS), an independent forum committed to improving the state of the world to promote dialogues for regional and global humanitarian development, is being expected to play a lead role in the efforts to achieve set humanitarian goals.

Helping the public generate a better understanding of these partnerships, the International Humanitarian Summit, which will be held on March 30, 2022, at the Dubai Exhibition Centre, Expo 2020, will move to increase more awareness on timely humanitarian issues and concepts--including humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.

According to the summit's organizers, the event is being held under the theme, 'Make a difference: Building a strong global humanitarian society for a better world.' The exciting event is being positioned to mark an important milestone in the concerted efforts to achieve global cooperation and unity. The summit will showcase highly interactive features that stand for top humanitarian values--characteristics that we lack nowadays in many places around the world.

Shakira Akbar, IHS Director said, “The IHS has maintained strong relations with other charitable groups, like Alwaleed Philanthropies and the Mandela Legacy Foundation. Working hand in hand with these groups has allowed us to continue playing significant roles in achieving worldwide cooperation and unity. These partnerships are set to take center stage at the International Humanitarian Summit, which will serve as a strategic platform to discuss pressing humanitarian concerns.”

Both the Mandela Legacy Foundation and Alwaleed Philanthropies have affirmed their full commitment to the success of the IHS, which is evident in their respective roles as founding partners of the event. In fact, Zondwa Mandela, Chairman, Mandela Legacy Foundation, and Her Royal Highness (HRH) Princess Lamia Bint Majed Saud Al Saud, Secretary-General, Alwaleed Philanthropies are two of the featured keynote speakers during the IHS' opening ceremony.

This year's show promises participants a fully-packed day of activities, which will start off with an opening ceremony to be graced by Her Royal Highness (HRH) Princess Lamia Bint Majed Saud AlSaud, Secretary-General, Alwaleed Philanthropies, and Zondwa Mandela, Chairman, Mandela Legacy Foundation. A series of presentations will also be featured within the day, including one from the International Humanitarian City entitled, 'Sharing our Dubai Model from the Largest Humanitarian Hub in the World' and another presentation called, 'Financial Inclusion for Vulnerable Groups: Women, over-indebtedness, unemployed, and elderly approach.' The day will also see several panel discussions tackling timely humanitarian issues. Topics to be discussed include 'Global extreme Poverty, Post Pandemic Effect - Undernutrition  as an Aggravating Death Factor;' 'Disability Inclusion – Protection Tools for People with Disabilities  in Dangerous Contexts;' and 'The Health Care Aid in Fragile Contexts.' Also not to be missed is a special interview with Valerie Nkambang Bemo, Deputy Director, Global Development, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where she will talk about the 'Role of Philanthropist during Times of Uncertainty and Crisis.' The event will be capped off with a special discussion on the 'Primary Role of Private Sector/CSRs/International Organizations in creating a better humanitarian society,' which will be paneled by Hani Khabbaz, Director General, Syria Recovery Trust Fund, and Roberto Croci, Managing Director, Microsoft for Start-ups Middle East, Turkey & Pakistan.

“We look forward to the success of this year's show, which will eventually result in the generation of a better understanding of key humanitarian issues and concerns. The event will feature a series of sessions led by prominent individuals putting the spotlight on relevant and informative topics to promote peace, justice, equality, and other fundamental humanitarian issues,” concluded Akbar.
