Saudi ports record 12% increase in container handling in August

Saudi Gazette report

Saudi ports, being supervised by the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI), handled 664,000 containers in August, marking an increase of 12 percent compared to the same period last year, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.

According to the figures issued by MAWANI, Saudi Arabia’s ports saw an increase in transshipment, a total of 225,000 containers, registering a rise of 21 percent. Saudi Arabia’s ports also handled 2.4 million tons of foodstuffs, a 20 percent increase compared to last year. The number of imported vehicles reached 39,000, while the number of livestock was 181,000 heads.

The remarkable increase recorded by Saudi Arabia's ports is due to strategic partnerships forged by MAWANI with major international shipping lines, which contributed to the launch of four transcontinental shipping lines this year. The shipping lines have contributed to enhancing the strength of linking the Kingdom's ports with the major global ports in the East and the West.
